A low headline fare or room rate can lose its advantage after mandatory and likely add-ons. Compare complete trip scenarios using the same travellers, nights, bags, dates and payment assumptions.
Start with the same itinerary
Match dates, airports, room type, cancellation terms and included baggage. A cheaper option with materially different terms is not a like-for-like comparison.
Add fees at the correct frequency
Mark each charge as per person, segment, night, day, booking or transaction. Include taxes and mandatory resort or service fees when known; keep optional upgrades visible rather than silently assuming them.
Value points conservatively
Compare points with the cash price you would genuinely pay, then subtract taxes and fees on the award. Do not use an advertised redemption value if the itinerary, flexibility or transfer risk differs.
Worked example
Scroll the table horizontally on small screens to see every column.
| Fare and hotel | Bags and seats | Hotel fees | Connectivity | True trip total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 900 | 180 | 140 | 40 | 1,260 |
The example excludes food and local transport because they are the same in both itinerary options.
